Homework and Discipline Policies
Middle School Academic and Discipline Policies
All of our policies revolve around three very simple, yet all encompassing, rules:
Be respectful. Be responsible. Be safe.
HOMEWORK: Homework is a vital part of the educational process. It is a formative assessment, which allows for teachers to determine the level of proficiency each student has in a particular concept.
-
Please be sure homework is turned in on time, is high- quality, and is neat.
-
In classes where homework is assigned regularly, it will count for 10% of the marking period grade. Each child is allowed to miss one homework per marking period. After the first missing assignment, each subsequent missing assignment will result in a deduction of five points off of the homework grade.
-
Completion of homework is mandatory. Homework will be assigned during the week and occasionally on weekends.
-
No homework or projects will be accepted in the office under any circumstance.
-
Students are expected to show work as needed on math and science assignments.
-
Should a child miss five homework assignments during the course of a marking period in all classes combined, the student will receive an “X” on their report card and will not be eligible for marking period awards.
-
Please check your child’s planner for daily assignments, announced test dates, and project due dates. As a backup, assignments will be posted on the teacher’s website. Your child MUST have his/her school-purchased planner everyday in school and every night at home. It is the student’s responsibility to copy daily assignments in their planners. The website is only a backup.
TESTS/QUIZZES:
-
All tests and quizzes will be sent home. Only tests and quizzes with a grade of 74 or below will need to be signed and returned within one week. Teachers will keep signed, returned papers. Failure to return signed tests/quizzes will result in an “X” on the student’s report card under manages/organizes materials effectively and appropriately . Students will also receive a Missing Materials slip for tests and quizzes not returned within one week.
-
There will be a midterm and a final exam . Each exam will be worth 10% of the total class grade. Exams are not sent home. Reviews will take place during class time. Use of a study guide is at the discretion of the teacher.
-
School policy regarding cheating and plagiarism, as stated in the Parent/Student Handbook, will be enforced.
FORMAT FOR WORK THAT IS HANDED IN: All handwritten work must be done in the following format:
-
Use black or blue erasable pen. Math homework and classwork are to be done in pencil only.
-
Proper heading is required on all work unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
-
If an error is made, it should be erased with the erasable pen. If a permanent pen is used on a test, do not cross out, but rather place a (----) around the mistake.
-
No whiteout.
-
Loose leaf paper is required.
-
Torn out sheets from a notebook will not be accepted.
-
Illegible work will not be accepted.
-
Points may be deducted in any subject area for language arts errors. Language Arts errors include spelling, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. as per standard deduction policy below.
-
Work that does not comply with the above guidelines must be redone, may be considered late, and 10 points may be deducted for each day late.
ABSENT MAKE UP WORK:
-
If you are absent for less than three days no work will be sent home. Upon your return you will receive makeup work and have an equal amount of days as you were absent to make up this work.
-
If you are absent on the day of the test, you will be responsible for making up the test on the day of your return. Tests are announced well in advance. Please check your planner and the website for dates.
BOOKS/SUPPLIES:
-
All textbooks must remain covered throughout the year. Soft-covered books should be covered in clear contact paper. Hardcover textbooks should be covered with a brown paper bag.
-
Being prepared for class is extremely important. Please make sure you have your required supplies that are needed daily. Being unprepared for a class on a continual basis will result in a check mark being placed on the report card under manages/organizes materials appropriately and effectively and may result in a lowered grade in that subject area.
Please refer to each individual’s grading policy for further information and the school handbook for school policies.
UNIFORMS: Students are to abide by the school’s uniform policy as outlined in the handbook. A uniform violation will be sent home when a student is not in proper uniform. This notice must be signed and returned the next day. The first uniform violation notice is considered a warning all subsequent violations will result in demerits being issued.
